Lockdown Guest Blog Tour!

lockdownLeah Watton’s practical joke has spiralled way out of control—all to impress a crush.

With a prank online video, Leah hopes to catch the attention of Jake Colton, a cute, blond-haired, blue-eyed co-worker she’s had a crush on for months. But instead of sending it to Jake, she manages to forward the clip to her boss—who buys every gory second.

When mass panic ensues, Leah learns the video is more than a staged act.

The government is calling the virus AM13. As the outbreak spreads, citizens are forced to stay indoors while they assess the gravity of the illness. Most people are quarantined in their homes, but Leah, Jake, and Leah’s best friend Michelle are some of the unlucky few who are stuck at work when the Lockdown occurs.

That’s where she first encounters one of the infected.

Aside from a contaminated woman devouring one of her co-workers, Leah has another problem. Does she do as she’s ordered and stay at work? Or should she disobey government orders and break free to reunite with her family?

She can’t go it alone—after all, Leah has none of the skills needed to survive—but with Michelle and Jake by her side, not even a contagious virus and a sea of the dead can keep her from.

Breaking out of the Lockdown.

Character Interview

Leah Watton

Today we’re interviewing one of the characters from Samie Sands’ new novel, Lockdown.

Tell us about yourself

Erm, okay… my name is Leah Watton, I’m twenty-three years old and I’m a news researcher. My job is alright, I suppose, but it isn’t exactly my dream career. Although, to be honest I’m not entirely sure what that is!

My best friend is called Michelle – she’s awesome, I really don’t know what I’d do without her. We go out now and again, but that’s about it for hobbies… oh dear, does that make me really boring?!

I’ve liked a guy named Jake for a while now, but he’ll never notice me. I keep trying, to get his attention, but I’m too much of a plain Jane for him to ever look my way. He’s gorgeous and really funny, I just wish I could think of a way to catch his eye.

How would you describe yourself in three words?
I guess loyal, hard-working – actually no scrap that one – fun-loving, and likeable. Am I likeable? I think so, I hope so.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I’d like to be much stronger. I often think that if something bad were to happen, that I’d be screwed. On the odd occasion when I watch horror movies, which to be fair is rare because I don’t deal with gore very well, I find myself thinking that I’d never be able to survive what the characters are going through.

I need to be stronger!

Maybe I should use my gym membership more.

What is your greatest regret?
Probably not being as close as I’d like to my family as I’d like. My parents and my younger brother, Felix, are amazing. But I’ve spent the last few years trying to carve out a life for myself, and I’ve definitely let things slide.

If I could change anything, that would be it.

Which talent would you most like to have?
To be honest, I’d like to have any talent. I feel like I’m okay at a lot of things, but not amazing at anything. I must be the most average person ever!
